Hydroxylamine hydrochloride is a strong reducing agent that can react both organic and inorganic compounds. This compound can assist in the preparation of samples for analysis of metals by reducing metal ions to their elemental state or to a lower oxidation state, making them detectable with common lab chemistries.


Hydroxylamine hydrochloride is used in Total Hardness Method 8329 to eliminate manganese interference.
